Walmart Shooting Charlotte, NC Today Leaves Multiple Victims as Police Investigate

A shooting reported at a Walmart location in Charlotte triggered a major police response Thursday night as authorities investigated reports of gunfire inside the store. Initial reports suggested multiple victims may have been involved, though later updates from police indicated that at least one person was shot and transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred at the Walmart on Callabridge Court in northwest Charlotte, near Highway 16 and Mount Holly–Huntersville Road. Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to the scene around 9:40 p.m. after reports of shots fired inside the store.

Video and photographs from the area showed a heavy police presence surrounding the Walmart as officers secured entrances, taped off portions of the property, and evacuated shoppers and employees from the building. Witnesses described panic inside the store as customers rushed to escape after hearing gunfire.

Early scanner traffic and community reports initially suggested multiple people may have been injured, but police later clarified that one confirmed victim had been located and taken for medical treatment. Officials stated the injuries did not appear life-threatening. Authorities have not yet publicly identified the victim or released details regarding a possible suspect.

Investigators are continuing to determine what led to the shooting and whether the incident stemmed from a dispute, targeted confrontation, or another circumstance. Detectives are expected to review surveillance footage from inside the store, interview witnesses, and analyze evidence collected at the scene as part of the ongoing investigation.
